NASA has recently made a new invention via their Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project. They developed a robotic exoskeleton to help their astronauts.

This new invention, the exoskeleton by humanoid robot project reminds us the superhero Ironman. Ironman, a Marvel Comic’s superhero has a powerful armor, which allows him super strength. But this exoskeleton by NASA’s  Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project is not like that what is shown in the movies or comics or in cartoons. This X1 robotic exoskeleton suit by NASA’s  Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project is only to help astronauts remain healthier in space.

This X1 robotic exoskeleton suit by NASA’s    Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project is jointly developed by NASA and The Florida Institute for Human and machine (IHMC) of Pensacola, Fla., along with using the help of engineers from Oceaneering Space System of Houston. This X1 Robotic Exoskeleton suit looks like a cross between the legs of a Transformer and a Stormtrooper.

This  X1 robotic exoskeleton suit by NASA’s Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project is developed for either helping or hindering a person’s legs. What it will do depends on its job description. When it’s set to inhibit, the X1 robotic exoskeleton suit by NASA’s Robonaut 2 humanoid robot resists movement of that person’s leg. This could be used to help astronauts to do exercise in space. But whehen it’s set to help, it could be used to assist. By this it could help  paraplegics and others with lower body injuries by helping them in walking.

This  X1 robotic exoskeleton suit by NASA’s Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project has four motorized joints and six passive joints for a good range of motion. The total weight of this suit is 57-pound.

This X1 robotic exoskeleton suit by NASA’s Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project is  still deep in the research and development process for further development. But it can be said that this X1 robotic exoskeleton suit by NASA’s Robonaut 2 humanoid robot project could some day be used both in space and on Earth.
